The 2nd Annual
Art of the Postcard

from Letter from the Editor on Issue Two

"For me, Inverted Syntax is the idea that we are always alive in art and text. Most of us are taught to envision existence as something that is here and now, visible and tangible. These pieces selected for Online Issue Two offer a mere glimpse into our stunning Print Issue Two, in which we invite readers to step outside of themselves and expand their definitions of what is real and what is possible. Issue Two builds on mapping the subconscious that is working through visual and textual arts. It presents the idea that humans everywhere are in conversation with each other, that when you pay attention to those conversations, when they are aligned just right, they can reveal answers to something more."

"Orchestral sound, scintillating piano. Lulu, did you leave me for a bright star? 16.8 light years away? Is the culprit Altair – that hot, incandescent body rapidly spinning in Aquila the Eagle? Does your lover live in a mass  of dust and gas, whimsically called the cloud of G? The G-cloud. Does he touch you there?"

"In my monthly bath of milk, I am Cleopatra. The wallpaper in the bathroom does not flake, does not smell of rot. The lightbulb above the chipped sink is not bare. The cracking linoleum is marble. Honey and rose sit in the air. I never dilute the milk. It is pure and heavy on my skin."

Self Defense
Joni Renee Whitworth

Picture
"I wonder if she sees me that way: a stagnant summer with a pending 'yet,' the husk of a filbert not yet become. To write her name, her full real name, would be to learn the word for safety, serenity, admiration. Are we even ready to hear that word?"
