If you are wondering about when you will hear from us regarding your submission:
We make decisions for Print Issues as late as October every year. Between November and March of the following year, we review all submissions and consider them for the Fissured Tongue Series. If you have not heard from us by March, please get in touch. Yes, It can take up yo a year. We are an unpaid, understaffed group of writers who volunteer our time while working full-time jobs elsewhere, because we LOVE Inverted Syntax. We appreciate and respect to you, dear writers and artists. Please be patient with us. |

Thanks for your interest! We are thrilled to have received such high interest and we are currently reviewing applications. Follow us on our social media sites to know when we start looking again for readers and editorial staff.
Inverted Syntax couldn’t run smoothly without the help of our volunteer editors and readers. If you want to join, this is the place to start. Don’t forget to check other ways to be a part of Inverted Syntax via submittable.
Become a Reader
Interested in serving on Inverted Syntax's reading committee for art, fiction, poetry, or non-fiction? Serving as a reader is a great way to learn the ins and outs of our journal while networking and working your way towards an editorial position.
Please be sure to note in your blog posts that you are applying to be a reader, and on your application that you have submitted three blog posts. Please include their titles.
To apply, send us a cover letter and your resume via Submittable. We favor readers who have experience, and demonstrate an understanding of our mission.
We may not be able to invite you to our reading committee at the present time, but if you’re a good fit, we will keep you on file.
In 2019, we will be putting together a contest reading committee. Look for more information in upcoming months via our social media sites.
All positions are unpaid.
Unpaid Internships
Starting February 2019, we will be inviting Mile-High MFA candidates starting their 2nd residency to apply for an editor-in-chief internship position. One candidate will be selected for this position which lasts from June 2019 through January 2020. If a suitable candidate is not identified, the position will open up to any writer located on the Colorado Front Range and enrolled in an MFA creative writing program.
Our goal with the editor-in-chief internship position is to provide local emerging writers with a unique opportunity to develop skills and practical knowledge in an area often reserved for those with extensive experience.
