Why we charge fees
As a small independently run press, we operate with limited resources, including funding and manpower. Submission fees help cover the administrative costs associated with organizing and managing our contests and printing and distribution services. This includes but is not limited to reading and reviewing submissions, promoting the contest, processing payments, swarding prizes, shipping costs, promoting the winning book, etc.
While we recognize the importance of providing equitable opportunities for BIPOC writers, we also need to ensure the sustainability and longevity of our press. Charging a modest fee allows us to continue supporting and publishing diverse voices in literature.
However, we acknowledge that submission fees can pose barriers to entry for some writers, especially those facing financial hardships. To address this concern, we offer fee waivers or reduced fees for BIPOC writers upon request. Our goal is to create a more inclusive and accessible platform for all voices to be heard.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we strive to foster a vibrant literary community that celebrates diversity and amplifies underrepresented voices.
