Seadragons eucalypts
Gavin Yates
I stagger from the obtuse slope, from the heart of an artichoke.
You never trouble my arms.
You unzip. Best case I see you at the racket counting wind bursts.
The pouring is lost from grinding your headlights.
Suppose you sink; with that,
so do I. Do your famous party trick, when you’re drunk with genius;
dances of it. I have no doubt. Frustrated another down-light wave,
inside Olympic ears:
halfmoon, is shelf, pardon—what is speaking, what eraser.

About the work: “ ‘l’eau you voice’ and ‘Seadragons eucalypts’ both explore the language techniques of dada and surrealism in a contemporary Australian setting. Taking my cue from twentieth-century anti-formalist poetics, my work explores the collision between fragments of external language sources and my own thought process. The intended outcome is to witness the event of poetic voice destabilized, and relocated.”

The Art
J.E. Crum is a contemporary fantasy artist who creates intensely vivid works using the method of automatism. Crum enjoys creating variations of the self-portrait using a variety of experiments in painting and drawing, often inspired by mythological stories. The artist finds the art-making process to be a journey of self-discovery; she enjoys being lost in the aesthetic experience itself. J.E. works intuitively, as she develops work that she interprets to become personal narratives related to her personal views and thoughts about fate, destiny and the meaning of her dreams. J.E. Crum also enjoys working full-time in a fast-paced career as an elementary art teacher where the artist currently teaches nearly 1,000 children a week in central Pennsylvania. Crum shows her work in a variety of exhibitions. She has donated her art for charity events, such as to help the homeless. The artist also curates art shows for her many students throughout the school year to bring art-enriching opportunities to children in the rural communities where she is an educator. J.E. enjoys making others happy through the power of art; she may be contacted at [email protected] or you may view informal photos of her artworks and posts about upcoming exhibitions on http://www.facebook.com/je.crum.714 .
About the art: “'Dragons: in my mind, on the planes' is a watercolor with pen detail that I created the summer of 2016 while I was traveling between The Cook Islands, Australia and back to the United States through LA. I had dragons on my mind and over the five weeks of traveling and waiting to board planes , I started painting and doodling the piece. As I prepared work for a big solo show, just about a month after finishing the small piece, I realized I wanted to exhibit it and I liked the catchy title. The piece sold during my opening.”
