About the Work"I believe self-love is one of the strongest medicines that can heal the soul. Made with recycled magazine scraps, “The Red String” represents the red string theory—a belief originated in East Asian cultures where an invisible red thread is tied around the fingers of people who are destined to be together, no matter the place, time, or circumstances in their lives. The figure in this piece has both of her pinkies tied together with this red string. Destined to love herself, to empower herself and go through life with her best interest in mind.
When making this piece I had to adapt to the medium a lot, as I had a limited supply of paper, and had to use the paper in purposeful ways. For me, this piece was extremely healing, as it started a new passion in me for exploring new art mediums, and kicked off my motivation to get my art out there and try to further my art career as an up-and-coming artist. Through making art I can express myself and make my own path through life." |
