Ginny Short
Ginny is a poet, essayist and photographer living near Palm Springs, CA. She has poems in the new anthology Fire and Rain: Ecopoetry of California, edited by Lucille Land Day and Ruth Nolan. She has published poetry in Minerva Rising and Cholla Needles, Mojave River Review and others and is currently looking for a home for her first book.
Ginny is an ecologist, with a Master’s in Ecology, Evolution and Organismal Biology from the University of California – Riverside. She manages two wildlife preserves in the desert. In 2016 she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of writing and graduated with a Master’s in Fine Arts in Creative Writing – Poetry and Creative Nonfiction in 2018 from Regis University in Denver, CO. Her day job is her inspiration. On the side she writes, teaches writing workshops and classes and hosts a local blog designed to give voice to the vibrant artist culture in the Coachella Valley. Her lifelong passion has been conservation and protection of the wild. Her writing reflects that as it focuses on the misunderstood desert that so many people call a wasteland. In addition to the wildlife she protects, she has a household full of critters – all rescue animals including birds, dogs, cats, lizards and tortoises. You can learn more at http://ginnyshort.com
